Welcome to the home of the
EAST HAM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL CHARITY FOOTBALL CUP COMPETITION - UPDATED FOR SEASON 2011/12
The Final 2010/11
Newham United 2 v 4 Castle United
Wednesday 25th May 2011, 6.15pm Kick Off
Newham United F.C., Cave Road, Plaistow
The Competition originated in 1901 at a meeting in the Committee room of the
Hospital (hence the name) and the Trophy was presented by the leading Doctor at the time.
The Trophy presented at our Finals up to Present time is the original.
Proceeds from the Cup Finals was presented to Nursing staff at the Hospital to purchase
something for their Community Rest room, i.e TV, Arm Chairs.
When the Hospital was closed and staff moved to Newham General we tried (via life
member George Smith) to give the money to the new Hospital, but they did not seem
interested. So George in his wisdom went to "The Sally Sherman Nursing Home".
The Nurses there are most grateful for our little gift each year.
We also donate a little to other deserving causes. Donations are decided at the
Competition's AGM each year. In October of 2006, with the reopening of the rebuilt
East Ham Memorial Hospital, the competition will be going back to it's original base.
The Competition is probably one of the oldest still in existance, and we hope will
run for years to come.
The Competition is affiliated to THE LONDON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION.
